But free fun lovers, fear not! There are several films that require a simple RSVP and no money down. How do you find them?

Just check the Downtown Film Festival L.A. film listings HERE. Scroll down and find the movies with an RSVP next to them. Of particular note is a film freebie on Friday, July 12, when Geoffrey Fletcher, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of 2009′s “Precious,” hosts a free public screening of the winning short films of the Bombay Sapphire Imagination Series.

PLUS, Downtown Film Festival L.A. is offering Free Fun L.A. fans not just one, but two ticket giveaways! Each giveaway is for two tickets to the films below.

Free tix to see PaladarThe first ticket giveaway is for “Paladar,” a film that  follows the story of Paladar, an illegal, underground supper club run by two college students from their off campus apartment at the University of Southern California. The documentary captures the entrepreneurial spirit and grit of a generation that director Gil Freston says has wrongly been labeled “Facebook addicted, post modern babies.” The movie will reveal for the first time the true story of the mysterious pop-up restaurant that became revered by L.A. gastronomes. At once the best-kept culinary secret and the most notorious foodie phenomenon in the city, Paladar, the restaurant, became a harmonious dining experience where food critics remarked, “the flavors sing together.”

Paladar screens on Saturday, July 13,  at 9 p.m. at the Downtown Independent Theater 251 S. Main St. in downtown Los Angeles 90012. Deadline to enter for free tickets to this film is 6 p.m. Friday, July 12.

Free tix to see The Human ScaleThe second ticket giveaway is for “The Human Scale,” a documentary that focuses on life in mega cities, where 50% of the world’s population currently live today and where 80% will live by 2050.  The Danish architect and professor Jan Gehl has studied human behavior in cities through 40 years. He has documented how modern cities repel human interaction, and argues that we can build cities in a way, which takes human needs for inclusion and intimacy into account. The film introduces thinkers, architects and urban planners across the globe. It questions our assumptions about modernity, exploring what happens when we put people into the center of our planning. (83 minutes) The film will be preceded by “CAPACITY,” a short, student film exploring the  inter-relationships of Downtown LA’s infrastructure and urban planning systems.

The Human Scale, screens on Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Independent Theater 251 S. Main St. in downtown Los Angeles 90012. Deadline to enter for free tickets to this film is 6 p.m. Sunday, July 14.

I want to win tickets to see Human Scale because I am design/women’s studies student and aspiring activist and these issues are what I hope to address in my line of work. Fascinating topic about the reality of how much of the world lives.
