Free Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena is Back!

April 26, 2013 |  by  |  free parade

Yep, Doo Dah, the wackiest free parade on the planet, is hitting the Pasadena streets again, this time on Saturday April 27!

The 36th incarnation of the parade where almost anything and anyone goes starts at 11 a.m. on Colorado Boulevard between Altadena Drive and San Gabriel Boulevard.

Free Doo Dah paradeConsidered the twisted sister to Pasadena’s annual Rose Parade, Doo Dah features a cornucopia of crazy, creative and clownish paraders. Imagine, if you will, of people who will promenade with cardboard houses over the heads! Or grown men wearing lizard costumes shaking their tails as they strut along the parade route as the “Lounge Lizards.” Plus there are arty cars and floats that boggle the mind. Rolling couches, cupcakes and giant cats anyone?

Colorful favorites expected to make their appearance this year are the Mile-High Bed, the Disco Drill Team, Flying Baby Cannon, Candy Girls, Dr. Steele’s Army of Toy Soldiers, beer-boosting rockers Drunk in the Garage, Kinetic Pastry Science Mobile Muffins, The Billionaires, Vegetables of Laguna Beach, Backyard Skeptics, Human Pool Balls, Petroleum Bonaparte, OC Norml’s Mardi Grass, Songbird Robot Brigade, and the legendary Snotty Scottie & the Hankies leading the pack.
No marshmallows at free Doo Dah
Although the free parade is touted as being family-friendly, some of the parade’s bizarre entries might be a bit scary to wee ones.

Oh yes, the parade has a history of spectators and parade participants throwing tortilla and marshmallows. This year, the parade organizers are asking everyone to refrain from throwing marshmallows as it leaves the streets sticky and difficult for cleaning crews to remove.  No word on the tortillas, though.

Live Free!
