Free Art Rocks in Pasadena this Weekend!

If you love art and culture, could anything be more perfect than Pasadena’s back-to-back free ArtNight Friday, free ArtWalk Saturday and free ArtPerformance Sunday?

Promoted as Pasadena ArtWeekend, the free event is actually five free art events rolled into one big weekend.

ArtNight kicks off the weekend, when 16 cultural institutions open their doors for free 6pm to 10pm. How to see more than one in a 4-hour block of time? Easy! Take the free shuttle. It loops around and stops at every place participating. Click here for a map.

Art museums and other local cultural gems include:

Alliance de Francaise de Pasadena, Armory Center for the Arts, Art Center College of Design, artWORKS at Learning Works!, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Lineage Performing Arts Center, Norton Simon Museum, One Colorado, Pacific Asia Museum, Pasadena Central Library, Pasadena City College, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena Museum of History, Pennington Dance at ARC Pasadena, Boston Court and Side Street Projects.

After a night of free fun, prepare to see art by the light of day 11am to 5pm Saturday, Oct. 12, when the Pasadena Playhouse District hosts, ArtWalk, an open-air art fair along El Molino at Colorado Blvd. At the same time, South Lake Avenue will be offering Art of Food, a free outdoor food and wine festival, 11 am to 4pm.

If that’s not enough for your cultural palate, Paseo Colorado holds ArtRhythm, 5pm to 9pm, with music under the stars. Live music includes world drumming traditions, ranging from Japan to Africa topped by a samba and salsa concert finale.

On Sunday, Oct. 14,  polish off your artful weekend with the free ArtPerformance in  Old Pasadena, featuring multicultural costume, music and movement from dance troupes performing traditional Mexican, Russian, East Indian, Himalayan, and Polynesian dance and more. The free dance festival runs from 1 to 6pm.

Live Free!
