Kids 6 to 14 get to build and keep a cool LEGO mini-build set at Glendale LEGO store,on Tuesday August 6. This month’s LEGO model is an outdoor BBQ grill.

Supplies are limited to 150 kits per store. These free mini-build events are so popular that kids line up two hours before the start time of 5 p.m. to assure themselves an opportunity to participate.  At 3 p.m. the Glendale LEGO store will hand out cards stamped with a time on them. A limited number of kids will be allowed in every 15 minutes and you must come back at the time on your card.

Other Southern California LEGO stores participating include South Coast Plaza, Disneyland Resort, Ontario Mills, The Shops Mission Viejo and Fashion Valley.

While the mini-build kits are not available for sale, kids can  download the instructions on how to build each mini model for free on the LEGO website. So if you can’t make it to Tuesday’s free workshop or if there is no LEGO store nearby you’ll be able re-create the mini-build model with your LEGO bricks at home. Right now the site has all the instructions from all the 2013 workshops available.

LEGO stores have rolled out another surprise FREE mini-build workshop — this one on Thursday, August 1, for fans of their Friends brand.

The LEGO Friends mini model building event at the Glendale Galleria  gives kids ages 6 to 14 the instructions and the bricks to create and decorate a mini jewelery box. Then they can take home their LEGO creation for free!

Kids ages 6 to 14 can build a Lincoln log cabin model and take it home. Workshop starts at 5pm. No reservations are necessary but each store has a limited supply of mini-build kits so get to the LEGO store early.

Kids Can Build at Birdhouse for Free at Home Depot Saturday!

For FREE things to do with kids in the Los Angeles area this weekend, try Home Depot’s free kid’s workshop this Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013! Help the birds stay out of the cold this winter by building a cute diamond-shaped birdhouse out of wood. Children ages 5 to 12 can build and paint a birdhouse similar to the one pictured here, 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, no reservations required.

Home Depot’s free workshops for kids are offered at all stores every first Saturday of the month. There are more than 40 stores in the L.A. area, so one nearby shouldn’t be hard to find!

At each free workshop, kids are introduced to a new project and are taught do-it-yourself skills and tool safety. In addition to keeping their handmade project, each child receives a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.

Free Admission for Kids at Major San Diego Attractions in October!

For a great day trip or weekend with the family this month, head south where admission to the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, Sea World and LEGOLAND are all free for kids. Yes, you heard right. All FREE for children depending on their age and the attraction.

At the  San Diego Zoo, home to 3,700 rare and endangered mammals, birds and reptiles, admission is free for kids ages 11 and under.

It’s the same for the zoo’s sister site, the 1 ,800-acre San Diego Zoo Safari Park, where animals roam free in vast expanses designed to mimic their native habitats of Africa and Asia.

At  SeaWorld San Diego admission is free for one child, ages 3 to 9, with one full-paid adult admission. The same free admission rules apply for Dine with Shamu. Additionally, kids, ages 10 to 12, can participate for free in SeaWorld’s Dolphin Encounter and Dolphin and Beluga Interaction Programs with one paid adult participation (kids must be at least 48″ tall).

LEGOLAND® California Resort and its companion attraction, the SEA LIFE™ Carlsbad Aquarium, are offering a free one-day Child Hopper Ticket for one kid, ages 12 and under, with purchase of a full-price one-day Adult Hopper Ticket.

Want more? Kids ages 12 and under get in free to 35 San Diego museums with one paid adult admission. Just print out this coupon from the San Diego Museum Council and  your kids can visit places like The New Children’s Museum, the U.S.S. Midway and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps for free anytime during their open hours in October. Some museums may have to collect your coupon so print out several to have on hand.
